Contributor Guidelines

We are always on the lookout for talented contributors to join the Fishing | Boating | Exploring team. Written BLOGs, short VLOGs or simple YouTube clips featuring fishing, boating or exploring across the Fraser Coast are all considered.

Content Ideas

  • Fishing ‘How To’ style content. Simple trip reports are not what we are after. Sure, you may have landed an awesome fish, but how did you do it? What did you use? These are the questions our audience will want answered. It does not have to be boat based, you maybe the land-based guru.
  • Boating ‘Destinations’, ‘Maintenance’ and ‘Tips’. Regardless of your boating experience. Remember someone out there is still learning what you already know. Destination content that includes safe routes to take and hazards to watch out for are perfect.
  • Exploring Content, it does not have to be boat based, you may have some awesome locations inland or only accessible via 4×4 or even better only via hiking in. Where to park, the route, what to take etc is all information valued by our audience. If you want to keep it secret, then concentrate on gear, technique, conditions etc.

Want to Be Published?

If you’re interested in being published on the Fishing | Boating | Exploring website. Your piece will also be distributed across our monthly newsletter and across our social media. The following guidelines should hopefully offer some helpful tips:

  • If you have any ideas for a piece, it is a good idea to discuss these with Luke Fitzpatrick on 0400 944 574 or via email: fishthatsnag@gmail.com before you send any submissions in.
  • As a lot of fishing and boating BLOGs and VLOGs have a common theme it’s a good idea to try and come up with a new “angle”. Simple trip reports are not what we are after. Remember our primary focus is on the Fraser Coast.
  • BLOGs or VLOGs should provide plenty of useful information for our audience. Include details such as tackle, rigs, techniques, locations, boat details, accom options etc. Our audience needs to learn from your piece, not just hear about how many fish you caught or how great the location was.
  • All BLOGs should run no longer than 1500 words and ideally be around 1000 – 1500. All VLOGs should be around 3 to 5 minutes in length. Combining a written piece with a short teaser video has great impact. Or a short 200-word piece with a VLOG.
  • Submissions can be made via email which contain appropriate links to your material i.e. YouTube videos and DropBox folders or other media manager software for downloading photos etc.
  • It’s a good idea to include any useful information on the areas featured. e.g. boat ramp or accommodation locations and contact details, guide details, maps, diagrams of rigs or any material that would be helpful and could be used in a fact box to accompany the feature article.

Photography & Video

Good quality eye catching photos or video are essential to illustrate any BLOG or VLOG.

Rule Number One – Keep the ‘Blood’ to the absolute minimum – Why?? Well, some of our audience do not want to see dead or dying fish.

All digital photos should be supplied unedited and preferably using a digital camera. Once you’ve shot your photos, don’t convert them to another file extension or edit them in any way. Simply leave them, choose your best shots, and forward to us. Why? An unedited file is the most flexible and high-quality image for us to edit. We can alter colour, exposure, even the sharpness of an unedited file, but once it is edited, we lose some of these options.

File Size

Please remember high quality images are generally large in file size, we require images greater than 2mb as a rule.

Sending photos to us is super easy. We prefer to correspond via email. You can upload images to drop box or any other media management software and send us a link so that we can download them.

You can do the same with video. If your VLOG is complete, fully edited and you simply want to have it distributed to our audience then we can do that. It is best if you can provide a short 200-word piece with the video link or file. So that we can construct an accurate post around the VLOG.

We can simply share VLOG links i.e. from YouTube or VIMEO and embed these on our website or if you send us the entire file, we can upload these direct to our website for use. The choice is yours!!

Final Thoughts

We hope all this information helps and we look forward to reading or watching your content. Remember if you are considering contributing, make contact first so we can discuss ideas and confirm arrangements.

Everyone needs to start somewhere, if you are nervous about writing, or simple not confident, please don’t be. Our role is to help make your contribution super engaging and we can work through it together.
